Wedding of Jean and Josephine
Alton, IL
October 9, 2015
**Some couples want a very brief wedding. After 48 years, Jean and Josephine wanted a simple wedding in front of just a handful of family and friends.**
Welcome from Minister (30 seconds or so)
Readings
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love suffers long and is kind; love envies not, vaunts not itself, is not puffed up. Does not behave itself unseemingly, seeks not its own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil, rejoices not in inequity, but rejoices in the truth.
Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
But whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Ancient Echoes by Mary Summer Rain
May the love between us be strong.
May the trust between us be whole.
And may the words between us be true.
May our eyes see one another.
May our ears hear one another.
May our hearts touch one another.
And may our souls hold one another.
Vows
Josephine, I want us to be together for the rest of our lives. I love you now, and shall continue to love, honor and protect you throughout my life. I offer you this ring as a symbol of my vow.
Jean, for as long as I live, I vow to love and cherish you above all others, to share with you a life of growth and respect, to carry your name with pride and welcome your children into our home. I offer you this ring as a symbol of my vow.
Exchange of Rings
Once, these rings were forged from rock, melted and shaped carefully and skillfully into their current form. Just as these rings were meticulously shaped and polished, so, day after day, is your love, melted in the fires of passion, molded by struggle and triumph, and shaped by the work of your hands and hearts. May the exchange of these rings remind you of the bond that you share and the daily work that creates your love.
Do you take one another in love and grace for today and each day into the future. If so, please say, together “we do.”
Proclamation
Having made your promises before all gathered you enter into the next steps your adventure together. By the power vested in me by the state of Illinois, I now pronounce you partners in Life. You may kiss one another.
Announcements
Go forth and have fun!
