Worship

“Gathered here in the mystery of the hour. Gathered here in one strong body.
Gathered here in the struggle and the power. Spirit draw near.”
#379 Singing the Living Tradition
Worship is a time to gather as a community, to be reminded of our connected-ness, and to raise those ideas, values, and needs present within our community. As a minister, I believe that worship is an area where I accept the gift of the “free pulpit” while empowering the congregation’s leadership and participation in worship. Worship should not be a voice of one, but an experience of all. Worship should be trans-formative and give us space to be healed, held, challenged, and transformed.
As a preacher, I like to move, to engage the congregation, and to have a variety of styles in the service. I try to be attentive to differing abilities, cultures, beliefs, and needs within the community. I am deeply committed to intergenerational worship that is interesting to our young members while being relevant to all of our members. If there is an intergenerational story in the service, you can be sure that it will important to the sermon whether the children and youth stay for the service or not. Worship should be like a piece of woven fabric that’s threads form at the end to create a whole and beautiful piece of art. That final fabric shows our values in resplendent detail.
